HOW TO CLEANSE YOUR NATURAL HAIR USING BENTONITE CLAY

Bentonite Clay from Nally Naturals

Hey beautiful people, it has been forever since I updated my
blog but I hope you are doing amazing and your natural hair is thriving and
flourishing. Today’s blog post is about my favorite clay; Bentonite clay.

I’ve a deep love for clay washes and they have been a major
part in my hair routines. Ever since I discovered the use of clay for my
natural hair, I’ve no regret. I’ve used the calcium bentonite clay and the
sodium bentonite clay and I love the latter compared to the former even though
both have the same benefits (I will discuss more about this in another blog
post).

The secret to healthy hair is a clean scalp!

Clay washes are a great way to naturally detox your hair and
scalp.

If you are a beginner at doing clay washes, I would suggest
you start doing it once or twice a month. That will still be beneficial to your
hair. I personally do clay washes bi-weekly because I have low porosity hair
and my hair is prone to product buildup and where I live has a lot of dust.

Bentonite clay wash recipe

What you need:

2 tablespoons of clay (you can adjust the amount depending
on your hair volume because this is what I normally use).

I used 2 tablespoons of Clay

8 tablespoons of water

Plain Water

I used 8 tablespoons of Water

2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. You can get this type of ACV from any Kenyan supermarket.

Plastic or wooden mixing tools. DO NOT USE ANYTHING
METALLIC
.

Use plastic or wooden tools

If you don’t have apple cider vinegar (ACV) you can use
either aloe vera juice or rose water or you can just use plain water on its
own.

Method:

Mix all the ingredients and cover your hair with a shower cap
and leave it on for 30-45 minutes.

Rinse it off very well with warm water or room temperature
water.

Follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner and then
rinse it off.

Style your hair as usual.

PS: The recipe can be altered according to your hair needs. You
can add oils if you’d like more slip or if the clay feels drying to your hair
.

Important things to note:

-Do not mix your clay using any metallic bowl or utensils as
this will make the clay lose its negative charges making it ineffective.

-If you have chunks, let the clay sit for 10-20 minutes so
the clay will absorb the liquid content and then mix it again before use.

-The measurements used are for my hair and length and you
should adjust the measurements according to your hair volume and length.

-Make sure you rinse your hair very well with water.

-Massage your scalp when rinsing it out to promote blood
circulation.

-After rinsing it out, your hair will feel clean and your
curls will look defined, so follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner.

-You can use the clay on dirty hair (that’s what I prefer)
because the clay acts as a shampoo and removes the dirt and buildup.

-Please detangle your hair prior to applying the clay mask.
You can spritz water and a little oil and detangle your hair in sections.
